PRESS RELEASE: 2010 CENSUS PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS SUBJECT OF SPECIAL SCREENING
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

2010 CENSUS PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS SUBJECT OF SPECIAL SCREENING

Franklin, Tennessee-February 19, 2010- When it comes to the 2010 Census, Williamson County continues its commitment to ensuring that every resident is counted.

On Thursday, March 4, 2010, the Williamson County Complete Count Committee (CCC) for the 2010 Census will host a special screening of a series of public service announcements (PSAs). These PSAs, produced by the Williamson County CCC, WC-TV and Williamson County School System, will depict Williamson Countians from all walks of life demonstrating their commitment to completing and returning their Census Questionnaire in a prompt manner.

“The ‘I Count’ spots were envisioned to demonstrate why completion of the Census Questionnaire is so vital to Williamson County. As a number of Federal programs, including education and transportation, rely on Census counts in their funding formulas, it is important that all Williamson Countians are counted to ensure that we receive our fair share of revenues”, notes Joe Horne, Williamson County’s CCC Chairman. Horne goes on to add that according to one 2007 survey, “the annual rate of return of Federal monies based on such counts has been estimated to be $1291.38 for Tennessee residents.”

The special screening of these PSAs will occur on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2pm, in the Auditorium at the County Administrative Complex. The Complex is located on 1320 West Main Street in Franklin. The public is invited to attend.

PRESS RELEASE 2010 Census Proclamation
This is the goal stated by County Mayor Rogers C. Anderson in a Proclamation (see link at bottom of page) in support of the 2010 Census.

This constitutionally-mandated effort is the responsibility of the United States Census Bureau in partnership with all levels of State and Local Governments.

“The importance of the 2010 Census cannot be underestimated”, stated County Mayor Anderson. “In a recent article published in County News, it was reported an estimated $1,249 per capita is awarded annually based on census counts. It is absolutely critical that Williamson County gets their fair share of these benefits. And the best way to do that is for all the citizens of Williamson County is to participate in the 2010 Census when the counting begins in April of next year (2010)”, adds County Mayor Anderson.

County Mayor Anderson goes onto say, “The outcome of the 2010 Census will determine, for instance, how many seats in the United States House of Representatives will be allocated to the State of Tennessee, as well as the redistricting of Tennessee General Assembly, the Williamson County Board of Commissioners, and voting districts in our cities and towns”.

In the coming months, a county-wide “Complete Count Committee” will be formed to promote citizen participation in the 2010 Census notes County Mayor Anderson.
